Ten birders braved temperatures less than 20 degrees for a nice morning of birding at Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in east Knox County. With the sun shining and no wind, it was a great day to be out in the field. We didn't have any surprises, seeing only birds that can be expected there at this time of year. Still, the FOX SPARROWs were a nice highlight - and a life bird for some of the participants. These were seen along the trail to Steamboat Island. Here's our list: Canada Goose Mallard Wild Turkey - seen by one near the entrance by one participant Pied-billed Grebe Great Blue Heron Turkey Vulture 1 probable N Harrier - seen briefly as we came out of a wooded area.
