Center)

Ladies and germs, it has come to my attention that Forks of
the River WMA is currently very birdy in the nighttime. Via scientific
documentation
from a fellow KTOS member (his eBird checklist) and a top secret correspondence
(an email), I have learned that seven individual owls were seen and/or heard
within
a ten minute period at the preserve! (1 Great Horned, 2 Barred, 4 Eastern
Screech.)
Not only that, but two Chuck-will’s-widows were heard as well. How exciting is
that?

I must go!

Please join me on a Jay Walk (a short, impromptu field trip)
for this one-of-a-kind experience. Of course, there are no guarantees with
nocturnal
species, but listening for them will be fun nonetheless. And what better way to
avoid the summer heat? Also, I would really appreciate the company, as it will
be dark out there and I’ll be scared. Fear the Wampus cat!

Meet at the parking lot at the end of McClure Lane at 4:30
a.m. This will be a short walk, just an hour or so, with the option of
continuing to go for longer as other birds awaken. If all goes well, I may do
this on a weekly basis. Thanks!
