Susan, thanks for posting the photographs, which I find quite
interesting. This doesn't look to me like your average female summer
tanager. Wondering if it migrated from out West. SUTAs west of central
Texas exhibit enough differences from Eastern birds to rate a separate
section in Sibley's. Color quite bright in the breast/belly, and the
tail looks yellow. The bill color is very yellow-orange; I think of
summer tanagers as having pewter-colored bills. And what about that
black notch below the primary coverts? Don't see that in my Sibley's.
Finally, what's with the blue-headed vireo look? Don't think I've ever
seen that much white in the loral area on SUTA. Comments welcomed.
