October 27, 2007 Greene County--numerous backroad sites in the western portion I spent about an hour and a half this morning and about the same amount of time this afternoon checking fields and farm ponds along Highway 348, Highway 340, and nearby areas. Birding was slow, but I found the following: American Black Duck (on Highway 348 approximately 0.3 mile west of Bible's Chapel Road; probably the same bird I reported seeing at this site on August 18; I believe it is unable to fly and that it is the same bird I observed here very late into the spring); Blue-winged Teal (4, intersection Smelser Road / Toby Road); Northern Harrier (3); American Kestrel (11); Killdeer (76); Horned Lark (13--8 on Baughard Hill Road, 5 on Highway 340 approximately 0.5 mile east of the Max Lamar Cooper Bridge); American Pipit (25 on Highway 340 approximately 0.5 mile east of the Max Lamar Cooper Bridge); Palm Warbler (3, including one "yellow" form); Savannah Sparrow; White-crowned Sparrow (4).
