I watched this grebe from my boat for about 10 minutes while it sat on the
shore preening. I kept getting closer to it and it would just look at me, I
thought it may have been injured so I drove my boat within 10 ft of it and
docked on shore to make sure it was ok. It got up and walked/wobbled a few feet
and sat back down. A friend suggested it was exhausted from flying, and I would
agree with that, it seemed fine and just kept on preening. This is the second
Horned Grebe I have found this fall. I found two hanging out last month around
Cliff Island, I saw them a week or so ago. This bird seems to be another
arrival. And I would say its def. in the hard to distinguish transition phase.
