Meigs County, TN
I spent a couple of hours at Hiwassee Refuge this morning. For both the refuge
viewing area and the Cherokkee Memorial overlook combined, I saw about 300
Sandhill Cranes and 40 White Pelicans. There was a nice assortment of
waterfowl, including Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks, Bufflehead, Hooded
Mergansers, Gadwall, American Wigeon, and Northern Pintails. I also saw a
female Purple Finch, an immature Bald Eagle, and 3 Great Egrets.
