This morning I noted several common Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge species and a few
species I hadn’t seen before at that site in Meigs County at Birchwood. A male
Common Yellowthroat was observed near the slough just north of the gazebo. I
had never seen one on HWR before. A Green Heron was perched in a tree in the
same area. Two Red-headed Woodpeckers were near the gazebo itself. I’ve seen or
heard these latter two species elsewhere on the refuge before but not that
close to the gazebo viewing area.
