Three immature bald eagles were in loud call mode as they flew down the Hiwassee River in Meigs Co. near the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park early this morning. The number of sandhill cranes continues in apparent decline. Instead of low thousands of sandhills at sunset in the Hiwassee Island area as in previous days, today there appeared to be only medium hundreds of sandhill cranes. Visibility was poor, but there was one whooping crane for sure at dusk, and another crane appeared to be a whooper, as well. Both looked to be juveniles. Charles Murray Birchwood, TN
