Was doing what I call "high altitude birding" this evening on my deck around 7pm (observing the sky in a reclined position) When I had a Great Blue Heron fly over at a pretty good altitude that alone is not that unusual but this one was accompanied by what I assume was a Great Egret. I've never really noticed these two species flying together, just seemed odd. The Egret was completely white, nearly the same size as the great blue, just a little smaller. It stayed about 30-40 feet behind and to the side of the great blue as it passed overhead heading in a southeasterly direction. Along with the egret and earlier in the afternoon a gray catbird, hermit thrush and 2 double-crested cormorants in Stewart county I had 90 species this weekend!
