Ken Oeser while driving through Grundy County found a small Great Blue Heron heronry. On April 5 it consisted of two nests with an adult on each nest. According to Ken, "this site is just west of Elkhead, a few miles north of I-24 on Highway 50, 200 yards south of the bridge over Elk River north of mile 201. The nests were in trees on the west side of Elk River. This is only a mile or so before Highway 50 climbs the mountain toward Altamont." If you live near this area or going through it soon and can do a survey of this site, contact Michael at mlbierly@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx The survey form will be emailed or can be obtained on the TWRA web site at http://www.state.tn.us/twra/nongame.html (bottom of left column for link). Also, am still in need of someone to survey the Looney Island heronry in Knoxville.
