On Friday, my wife and I drove to Woods Reservoir to see if the heronry at= =20 Little Elder Island was still active. Cattle Egrets, Black-crowned=20 Night-Herons, and Green Herons were all using the island. There were also=20 several Great Blue Herons in the area, although they did not appear to be=20 breeding on the island. In addition, there were numerous Cliff Swallows=20 around, as well as a few Northern Rough-winged Swallows, and a couple=20 Purple Martins. Little Elder Island is located at at about 35=BA 19' N x 86=BA 4' W. On=20 DeLorme's Tennessee Atlas & Gazetteer it is located exactly on the crease=20 between pages 22 and 23. We viewed the heronry from Northshore Road (on the= =20 north side of the lake) but a scope was required.
