Non-birding friends who have two "birding curious" adolescent children
sent me a report that some of the Mississippi Kites they have been
seeing at their home over the last couple of years have returned to
their yard. They reported five of the birds there yesterday, their
first sighting of the season. Since the kites first appeared there a
couple of years ago (when they asked me about the "weird white and
grey hawks"), they have learned to identify them and have come to
really enjoy watching them. The kites like a certain dead tree in
their yard.
They live near Country Club Road off of Highway 79 North in Paris,
Henry County.
We have yet to see any near our yard yet this year, but have seen them
very frequently over the last two years... after seeing only one
within the last 19 years at this location!
