Harpeth River Greenway/Morton Mill Rd. Lake Davidson Co. Nashville, TN 2009 Aug. 25 Last evening after work in the slowly declining heat, I again went down the road to Harpeth River Greenway to check for shorebirds at Morton Mill Rd. Lake. The 11 calling KILLDEER had apparently invited a solitary shorebird to set down on the minimal mud flats. Unfortunately, it was at the far side of the shore, so although I had my suspicions about its identity, I went home to get my spotting scope. Sure enough, living up to its name, there was a single SOLITARY SANDPIPER, which alternated between feeding and resting. Thus, I was rewarded for my efforts with a new shorebird for the year.
