I arrived at the Harpeth River Greenway very early on
Sunday morning, and 156 CANADA GEESE were still using
the lake as an overnight rest stop. As I walked through
the woods, I heard several complaining crows, and after
a minute or so I arrive at a spot across the river from
noise. Thinking they might have found a hawk or owl,
I was amazed to see an adult BALD EAGLE sitting on a
large snag at the top of a tree, my first eagle seen at
the greenway.
The small man-made lake now has a significant amount
of mud exposed, and on my return walk to the area,
instead of the geese I found 2 LEAST SANDPIPERs and
a SPOTTED SANDPIPER.
