I saw the Harlequin Duck today, Sun, 2/10 at the Riverfront Seafood Company restaurant in Kingsport (Sullivan County). I arrived at 3:15 pm and two men were leaving after not seeing the duck. A woman with her family was there looking also. After about 15 or 20 minutes she saw it fly to the upstream island from the adjacent north shore of the river and I was able to see it although distant. It stayed briefly and flew back to the north shore. I decided to find a place up-river to view that area and found Keller Rd next to the restaurant leading to a greenway and metal gazebo beside the river (facing the upstream end of the island). The duck appeared close to shore here with a pair of Mallards giving great looks for a minute or two. A loud boat came upstream and the three of them flew around to the far side of the island. I stayed until 4:20 but never saw the Harlequin Duck again. An adult and juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron were seen in the area as well. On a side note I drove there from Knoxville along US-11W N instead of the interstate and saw 11 American Kestrals, 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 5 Red-tailed Hawks, and 1 probable Cooper's Hawk (sitting in the grass) along the way.
