I had an opportunity to bird several areas in Hamilton co. on March 20 and
totaled 80 species. Some of the highlights included:

- Four Fox Sparrows on my Migration Monitoring route at the Cravens
House. I have had them in the area before but never actually on the route.

- A lot of ducks are in migration on the Tennessee river. The
rafts were observed out from Bal Harbor road on the south side of the river.
Species were: 10 Gadwall, 5 Redhead, 3 Ring-necked Duck, 160 Lesser Scaup,
31 Bufflehead and one male Ruddy Duck.

- There are several shorebirds at the Brainerd Levee right now. At
this location I was joined by Jim Eager and Kyle and April Waggoner.
Shorebirds species included; 1 basic plumaged STILT SANDPIPER. This is the
earliest record I can find for SE TN. The earliest for the state in
Robinson's book is 10 March, 1985 in Shelby county. Jeff Wilson, what is
your earliest record? Other shorebirds included: 33 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1
Lesser Yellowlegs and 14 Wilson's Snipe.

- Still very few migrant passerines around, no Blue Gray
Gnatcatchers or early warblers.
