24 April 2019
Hamilton County, TN

It was a decent morning banding at Greenway Farms. Aside from a cardinal and a
Carolina Wren, I caught my first 2 Northern Waterthrushes of the spring. There
are still lots of White-throated Sparrows around, and I banded 5 new birds, and
had 1 recapture. When I looked up the band number of the recap, I discovered
that I originally banded it February 21st...2011! Since the bird was an adult
when I banded it, that makes it at least 9 years 4 months old. According to the
banding lab, the oldest known White-throated Sparrow is 14 years old, and the
next oldest is 9 years 11 months, so this guy is poised to take over the #2
spot!

Other migrants I saw or heard:

Great Crested Flycatcher = 1
White-eyed Vireo = 2
Tree Swallow = 4
Barn Swallow = 2
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher = 5
Scarlet Tanager = 1
