March 4, 2006 Greene County (various spots in the western portion--communities of Midway, Mohawk, Warrensburg, Pate's Hill) I observed the following in a brief western Greene County swing this afternoon: Canada Goose (47); Wood Duck (2); Gadwall (3); Northern Pintail (at Wal-Mart Distribution Center); Ring-necked Duck (33+--25+ on Gravel Woods Road, 8 on Toby Road; a high total for Greene County); Great Blue Heron (4--including 2 birds standing on nests along the Nolichuckey River at the intersection of Pate's Hill Road and Jackson Hollow Road; GBHE were also observed on nests at this site last spring); Northern Harrier; Wilson's Snipe (23); American Pipit (75+ on Green Road); Savannah Sparrow (5 on Sapp Road, including 1 singing male); White-crowned Sparrow.
