After confirming that the seven GB Heron nests on
Keith Cove Rd. west of Cowan were still active this
morning, and passing a half-dozen brightly plumaged
Savannah Sparrows and a pleasingly full gourd colony
of Purple Martins (on Monday I saw only a couple of
martins, but several house sparrows and Starlings
there) on Water Tank Rd., I checked the area on Arnold
Farm Rd. north of the new nursery there and watched a
Grasshopper Sparrow sing in suitable, but far too
small, habitat. The male Northern Harrier I had seen
drinking from a puddle there on Monday was not seen
today. This area in part borders the Winchester
airport.

At the intersection of US hwy 64 and Georgia Crossing
Road, (and on the other side of the airport), a
Dickcissel was singing.

One of the Georgia Crossing Road Shrikes was foraging
from the wires and gables of the subdivision 0.4 mi W
of Greenhaw Rd. when I passed there at 9:30 and 11:30.

It has been my very great fortune to find an incredibly wonderful bird.
