Finally tallied yardbird #110 this morning. A Trail's-type flycatcher that very co-operatively rattled off about a half-dozen "whit" calls leading me to pick Willow over Alder. Not the habitat you generally associate with Willow but I guess anything goes during migration. Yesterday was quite but finally got some good activity following the cold front. The hordes of starlings that have been roosting along the ridge haven't completely consumed all the Black Gum berries and finally had a decent number of Swainson's Thrushes eating them this morning. 27 species in about 1 hour of birding before work this morning (24 Sept). Some highlights: Ruby-throated Hummingbird - at least 3-4 Eastern Wood-Pewee - 2-3 Willow Flycatcher - 1 White-eyed Vireo - 1 singing Red-eyed Vireo - 1 Eastern Bluebird - 12+ eating Black Gum berries Swainson's Thrush - at least 3-4 Gray Catbird - 1 Magnolia Warbler - 1 Blackburnian Warbler - 1-2 American Redstart - 3+, including 2 adult males Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Topographical Maps located at http://topozone.com/find.asp * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Tennessee Ornithological Society web site at http://www.tnbirds.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net Owner: Wallace Coffey, Bristol, TN jwcoffey@xxxxxxxxxx (423) 764-3958 =========================================================
