The Golden-crowned Sparrow in Covington, TN (Tipton county) was seen by the Kunkels at 7:10 am yesterday and it fed in the area of the feeders until approximately 7:30 am. Myself and 4 other birders tried for the bird yesterday afternoon. I arrived at around 3 pm and stayed until about 4:35 pm. During my stay the bird was not seen. There was a light rain falling but the biggest hindrance was a Sharp-shinned Hawk in the area that kept most of the birds laying low for a majority of the time I was there. We did have several White-throated Sparrows on the ground feeding one time for a few minutes but the Golden-crowned never made an appearance while I was there. I do not know if it was seen after I left. Looks like I will have to make another trip!
