January 24, 2014 Leaving the Cordova (Shelby County) library at 1:55 today, I was shocked to see two juvenile Golden Eagles overhead. Previous reports bring the number of Golden Eagles found in four West Tennessee counties since 16 Dec to an amazing minimum of six, and likely, seven individuals. On December 16th, Scott Somershoe had three (2 adults, one juvenile) at Hatchie NWR in Haywood County; on December 20th, Mike Todd had a second year bird in Weakley County, and on January 11th, a juvenile was recovered at Lower Hatchie NWR in Lauderdale County and taken to the Mid-South Raptor Center. Unfortunately, that bird subsequently died of lead toxicosis (Knox Martin). As Mike noted, one (or three!) might turn up anywhere. Next? Dick Preston Munford Tipton County
