Gibson County Lake
East of Trenton, Gibson County

Swung by Gibson County Lake this afternoon and when I topped the hill where I
could see the lake I was amazed - Canvasbacks were everywhere! I counted 325 in
one swing across the lake with my scope - I'm sure there were more than that as
some were diving! It was a very nice sight indeed as many of these birds were
very near the shore in the afternoon sun! I only found one Redhead in the group
- a female. There were also over 40 Common Goldeneye on the lake. There was
also a small number of Mallards, Gadwall, and Lesser Scaup on the lake.

Gulls were abundant as well for this fairly small lake and there were over 1000
Ring-billed Gulls present along with 9 Herring Gulls.

Other birds of note were:

Common Loon - 1
Double-crested Cormorant - 1
Barred Owl - 2 calling from the woods at the north end of the lake

Suprisingly I saw no grebes whatsoever on the lake.

Good birding,
