Island in Percy Priest Lake near Long Hunter State Park
Davidson Co.
On Monday April 10, Pat and I canoed around a small island near Long Hunter SP
on Percy Priest Lake between 2 and 4 in the afternoon. We observed 107 Great
Blue Heron nests (a bird at each nest). 24 Black-crowned Night-Herons were
present, some with nests. A single Great Egret was perching, no evidence of a
nest (yet). There were 8 Black Vultures in the midst of the Great Blue Herons.
11 Double-crested Cormorants were perching on a snag on the island.

Also observed were 5 Tree Swallows, an Osprey, 40 Coot, 9 Shovellers, 3
Gadwalls, 2 Mallards, 4 Canada Geese and 23 Common Grackles. A Common Loon was
heard calling several times.
