While doing the Great Backyard Bird Count at Orgill Park & golf course in north
central Shelby County today, I noticed among the 50 or so Canada Geese that
loaf around Casper Lake a small gaggle that seemed strange. Closer observation
revealed much smaller size and stubby bills. They were obviously Cackling
Geese, a life species for me. Also present with the group was a Snow Goose,
which brought my total to 30 species for one hour's observation.
