The 2014 Memphis CBC was held on December 14. The 2014-2015 winter season was the 115th year of CBC data collection and the 87th year of the Memphis CBC. The weather was nearly perfect with clear skies and mild temperatures. 31 participants in 8 parties recorded bird 93 species. A Long-eared Owl was seen at Shelby Farms Park by multiple participants and was a new bird for the count. Other rare species included a male Long-tailed Duck seen at Ensley Bottoms and six American White Pelicans seen at Ensley Bottoms (5) and Presidents Island (1). Long-tailed Duck has been recorded on one previous Memphis CBC and White Pelicans have been recorded on 3 previous counts. Two species were recorded in record high numbers. 214 Hooded Mergansers were seen (112 in Raleigh, 90 at Ensley Bottoms, and 12 in Northwest Memphis). The previous high for Hooded Mergansers was 128 on the 109th CBC. 12 Eastern Phoebes were recorded. The previous high for Eastern Phoebes was 11 on the 113th CBC. Margaret Jefferson
