Washington State Park around 10:00 AM EDT. The bird was about half way between Gold Point Marina to the left and Privateer Yacht Club to the right and more or less half way across the lake. The bird exhibited the classic thin and upturned bill, a white face and neck (the eye was surrounded by white), smaller size overall than nearby Common Loons and considerable white spotting on the back. We also observed a Peregrine Falcon flying over the Group Camp area on the hilltop, which can be reached by taking the first left after you enter the park. Later in the day I found a second Red-throated Loon at Chester Frost Park, a Hamilton County Park just east of Hixson Pike. The bird was alone in the first slough which can be reached by turning left just after you enter the park and taking the second left onto a gravel road that leads toward the water. The bird was about half way between the near shore and a white boat that is beached on the far shoreline. Similar field marks noted above were present on this bird as well. The bird was found around 2:00 PM, observed for 10 minutes or so and was still present when I left the park at 3:04 PM. Good Birding in '09.
