A juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron walked around our lawn and flower garden from 7:30 - 8:15 AM today. It was feeding on cricket-sized insects, averaging about 1 per second. Long neck with narrow sharp streaks, small white spots and hint of white edge on wings, long legs. Yellow iris rather than red. Our yard is dry, with woods along the back. Our neighbor has a 2000 sq ft pond just across the fence, which attracts Great Blue and Green Herons. The Y-c Heron walked in from that direction, David and Gloria Patterson Ooltewah, Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN August 19, 2004 =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
