Spring Migration Count 10 May 2003 Shelby County, TN Shelby Forest, Eagle Lake WMA, Shelby Farms EARTH Complex, Overton Park, etc. Memphis, Germantown, Collierville Millington area, Arlington area, etc. Revised Preliminary Results At least 20 observers participated in this year's spring count for Shelby County. There were at least 129 species, somewhat lower than last year. The day was very windy, but at least there was no rain or storms, etc. Highlights: ANHINGA - 1 soaring over Poplar Tree Lake, Shelby Forest Osprey 1 Mississippi Kites - 30 plus Cooper's Hawk 2 Wild Turkey 2 Black-necked Stilt 90 (North Plant and EARTH Complex) Black Tern 1 adult, Shelby Farms Eurasian Collared Dove 8 Black-billed Cuckoo 1, Shelby Forest Bank Swallow, 30 in nest colony on Mud Island Cliff Swallow 2 American Pipit 1, Shelby Farms (late) Vireos: 5 species including Blue-headed Warblers: 24 species including Bay-breasted, Worm-eating, Swainson's, Wilson's, Canada Grasshopper Sparrow 6, Shelby Farms Bobolink 1, Shelby Farms W.
