Nov. 8, 2008 Miss. Rv, Ensley, Robco Lake Shelby Co. TN Dacus Bar hosted 37 FRANKLIN'S GULLS and 7 Ring-billed until the Speed King Peregrine came in and took a perch on one of its favorite logs. A single large all dark duck was sleeping with the Franklin's but I never saw its head and lost it in the flush. Just one small pod of Coots and a pair of Ruddy Ducks were taking the easy way south on the river. At Ensley, the raptor crew remains the same but I added a single Long-billed Dowitcher to the November shorebird list. I also photographed the worst accident I've ever seen down there. Two pickups hit head on in a straight section? Keep an eye out as the traffic is heavy and fast. At Robco Lake the duck population keeps rising in numbers and species with my the first Canvasback of the season. The herd of feeding DC Cormorants had 39 Ring-billed Gulls trying to snatch a shad or two as the hunters resurfaced. One Horned Grebe still is hanging with the Ruddy Ducks. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
