Dutch Bottoms on upper Douglas Lake (East Tenn.) The waters of Douglas Lake have finally come down quite a bit. In the Dutch Bottoms section (along hwy 25E, south of White Pine) today I found a Franklin's Gull sitting with a bunch of Ring-bills on a muddy point at the TWRA access area across from the Dutch Bottoms Babtist Church. Also present: Ring-billed Gull - 300 Forster's Tern - 1 Ruddy Duck - 1 Dunlin - 4 Gr. Yellowlegs - 1 Great Egret - 30 Pied-billed Grebe - 6 Am. Coot - 30 D-c Cormorant - 45+ There is lots of nice mud at nearby Rankin Bottoms, but few birds. The road is very muddy near the end & boots are needed to walk around much. As the lake drops more, Dutch Bottoms will be the better spot & with easy access. ################### Rick Knight Johnson City, TN rknight@xxxxxxxxxxxxx =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
