The highlight of today's birding at Mocassin Bend (Chattanooga, Hamilton CO)was a Fox Sparrow. Charlie Muise and I also saw two there this past Friday. For the most part, though, today was a quiet day at Mocassin Bend. Apparently the local hawks think that Cedar Waxwings are either very tasty or easy to catch. In the past two weeks I've come across two waxwing hawk-kill remains. Other birds present today: Great blue heron (in the "swamp" off the trail) Canada Geese (overhead) Mourning Dove Flicker Red-Bellied Wo Am Crow Blue Jay Ca Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-Breasted Nuthatch Carolina Wren Ruby-Crowned Kinglet E Bluebird Am Robin (still hundreds around) Hermit Thrush Brown Thrasher Cedar Waxwing Yellow-Rump Wa No Cardinal Field Sparrow Song Sparrow White-Throat Sp Yesterday I heard a pine warbler singing. I missed it today.
