Sunday, June 13, was a great day to be a Mississippi kite, especially if you
were at Eagle lake WMA, Shelby County. A strong southwest wind following a
line of thunderstorms sweeping across the Big River from Arkansas struck the
bluff, providing an updraft for 26 kites, as well as other soaring raptors.
The kites soared, dipped, swooped and swirled in the wind, obviously enjoying
themselves. Anthromorphic? Maybe. But if they weren't having fun, what
else were they doing?
