I had the pleasure to lead the first Wednesday morning migration walk of
the Spring this morning at Radnor Lake in Nashville. A large group
originally starting with 32 birders had a fairly slow day, species-wise for
migration, but it was a beautiful morning, and pretty much everyone got
good looks at a number of attractive species. Several NORTHERN PARULAS were
singing all along the lake trail. Yellow-rumped Warblers are still
numerous, and PALM WARBLERS are now along the lake in decent numbers.
BLUE-HEADED, YELLOW-THROATED, and WHITE-EYED VIREOS were seen and heard, as
well as both SCARLET and SUMMER TANAGERS. A first-of-season ACADIAN
FLYCATCHER was at the spillway. A pair of HOODED WARBLERS were seen at the
cane bridge. At Long Bridge, we had BLUE-WINGED, PRAIRIE, and
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, as well as a female PURPLE FINCH.
I'm sure there were many other species observed by those who continued on
around the lake. With a group this large, I certainly also missed counting
some species seen by members of the group during the first part of the
walk. I know that WARBLING VIREO, ORCHARD ORIOLE, RED-EYED VIREO and others
were seen by birders we met on the trail, but they weren't encountered on
the "official" walk.
My full checklist is below. Good birding!
