Yesterday at about 5:15pm March 17th I heard and saw a Louisiana Waterthrush
in the patch of bamboo next to where Katherine Goodpasture's cabin once
stood on Bedford Creek Road in the Fernvale Valley. Katherine, a great
mentor to many of the birders in the Nashville area, was often the first to
find a LOWA in the spring. Her grandson, Joe Little, is now the tender
caretaker of the land.

The bird gave several "smacks" and never sang.

We live <1mile away and we often have the first reported LOWA in the spring
- the most frequent date is March 16th. No birds have been heard on our
creeks as of this morning.
