The Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society sponsored a field trip to Seven Islands WMA in Knox County today (4/6/2003). There were 15 attendees who saw a total species count of 47. Notable sightings include: A flock of Double-crested Cormorants numbering over 200. Two Osprey. Five Northern Bobwhite. An excellent look at a Hairy Woodpecker. Four Swallow species, including Purple Martin, Barn Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow and Tree Swallow. Numerous Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. Nine Sparrow Species, including Chipping, Field, Fox, Savannah, Song, Swamp, White-crowned, White-throated and Eastern Towhee.
