I saw two Common Ravens this afternoon in Fentress County near Big South Fork
and Pickett State Park. I pulled up to a local store (Beaty's Wildwood Grocery
on Highway 154, 36.48098, -84.85929 ) and as I got out of the truck I heard an
odd croaking ,“roak,” “roak” and looked up and saw two large black birds. They
were just above treetop level and I could see their wedge shaped tails. Several
crows in the area added a size reference and were notably smaller in size than
the ravens. The crows also began to call aggressively and mob the ravens. They
quickly disappeared behind the trees. This is the first eBird record for the
species in Fentress County.
