This afternoon at 3pm, off Puckett Point Road, Smithville TN (DeKalb Co.,
36.010943 / -85.738091) I observed:

1 Cerulean Warbler, adult female (CERW)
1 Yellow-throated Vireo (YTVI)
Plus these birds coming to feeders
30+ Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
2 Red-bellied Woodpeckers
4 Tufted Titmouse
3 Goldfinch
4 Mourning Dove
1 Carolina Chickadee

Whether either the CERW and YTVI are migrants is unknown as both have
territories that include the gap in the trees tops for the deck of our lake
house. Though I scanned the tree for the next 45 minutes, I saw no
additional passerines.

I saw the CERW within about 10 minutes of hearing the YTVI call once, and
appear briefly. The Cerulean was in view for only a couple of seconds but
she showed me all of her field marks in the afternoon sun, including tipping
her head to reveal the unique aqua-blue of her crown.

I was especially happy to make this observation on this specific day, as
Ernesto Carman, a colleague working on Cerulean Warbler fall migration in
Costa Rica, is conducting his third annual Cerulean survey today on the
Atlantic slope, where Ceruleans are not uncommon this time of year. I was
sick that I couldn't join him again this year.
