[TN-Bird] Re: Female Archilochus Humm.-Help with ID

Bates-
This is a difficult ID if not in hand.  First thing to note is that
Black-chin is certainly possible; there are four or five previous records
for TN and this is the time of year when we would expect one to first
appear.
The best thing to do is take pictures; the shape of p10 is the best field
mark.  In addition, Black-chin averages a much longer and slightly decurved
bill compared to Ruby-throat.  I also thing the call notes is subtly
different - slightly lower-pitched and less raspy - but other folks have
called me crazy on that one.  ;)
