[TN-Bird] FW: The Hoodies are back (at Kingston)

The Am. Coots have been back in the river bend in downtown Kingston for several
days -- Hinckley Ohio has its springtime buzzards, Kingston has its wintertime
Coots. It ain't the swallows returning to San Capistrano, but it's what we
got... ;)
I hope to start seeing the usual winter bunch of mostly male Ring-necked ducks
in the teacup pond across Hwy 58 from the DOE K-25 Site in Roane Co. west of
Oak Ridge. I don't think it's cold enough for the Ring-necks, though; their
appearance/disappearance seems to depend on temperature but I don't know that
for sure.

Kingston Steam Plant, Roane County, Tennessee, Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11.
Counted 52 Hooded Mergansers, predominantly male (probably 10-12 were female).
Watched a Northern Harrier fly across the big pond, alight on a small post and
pose nicely for a few minutes. Eventually it dropped down into the grass behind
it, devoured something and left.

Other select birds:

Savannah Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Palm Warbler
2 Double Crested Cormorants
at least 23 Ring Billed Gulls
5 Great Blue Herons
