I can be reached at 423-821-6802 or at kac@xxxxxxxxxx Migration is still in full swing: Jonnie Sue Lyons reported the first Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (3) of the season at her residence on Signal Mountain on September 30. I (Kevin Calhoon) walked Brotherton Fields in the Walker County (GA) section of Chickamauga National Battlefield Park on September 29. Highlights included: 1 Sora 1 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 Sedge Wren 5 Marsh Wren 2 House Wren 1 Bobolink 2 Grasshopper Sparrow 1 Savannah Sparrow The Cravens House is still hopping with migrants. On September 26 I observed 2 Philadelphia Vireos and 3 Gray-cheeked Thrushes. On September 29 I observed 9 species of warblers including Bay-breasted and Worm-eating (getting late) as well as 1 Gray-cheeked Thrush, 4 Swainson's Thrush and 8 Wood Thrush. The TOS fieldtrip to the Cravens House on Sept. 25 had six species of warblers (including Blue-winged) despite blustery conditions (Hurricane Rita)(Clyde Blum) Judy Newsome and I observed two Laughing Gulls and the ever present Brown Pelican above Chickamauga Dam while looking for storm driven birds from Rita on September 26. Dennis Harris got his life Philadelphia Vireo in the back yard of his residence in Brainerd on September 29. Here is a message from David Aborn about his banding station along Chickamauga Creek on September 27: I had my best day ever banding at Greenway Farms this morning, including a big surprise. My tally was 1 Common Yellowthroat, 1 Eastern Wood-Pewee, 2 Gray Catbirds, 2 Hooded Warblers, 5 Ovenbirds, 5 Magnolia Warblers, 7 Indigo Buntings, 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER, and.......1 SEDGE WREN. There were lots of birds around, mostly Magnolia Warblers, Ovenbirds, catbirds, and grosbeaks. Carol Fegarido, Betty Wampler, and Alberta Oliver came to see the banding, and they saw a Blue-winged Warbler. Two female Wilson's Warblers were reported from along the riverwalk below Chickamauga Dam on September 23. (Harold Birch) Twenty Blue-winged Teal were present at Standifer Gap Marsh on September 29.
