Because this is of general interest to Tennessee birders, especially those in the southwest corner of the state, I am posting this bird walk notice that I received through the TOS web site. Guided and self-guided bird walks will be held throughout the day beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. at Pavilion 761, in the North Outlet Channel Recreation Area. These bird walks will provide an opportunity for experienced birders to teach novices how to better enjoy wildlife watching and for families and friends to simply enjoy some time outdoors together. The event will include educational programs conducted by the National Audubon Society, a certified Leave No Trace instructor from the Parks and Recreation Management Program at the University of Mississippi, and Desoto Animal Rescue Society. Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc. will also be in attendance with an exhibit featuring live birds of prey. Please join us and show your interest and support for our nation's natural resource areas and the wildlife that make them their home. Your neighbors with the Corps of Engineers at Arkabutla Lake, Audubon Mississippi, and the University of Mississippi hope you can attend. Some things to remember: Binoculars, water, insect repellent, pen, pad, and remember to dress appropriately. This event is open to the public. Only in the case of severe weather will the event be called off. For additional information, contact Park Ranger, Shea Staten (662) 809-0722, or Dr. Matt Zuefle at the University of Mississippi (662) 915-7573. For map and directions visit: www.mswildliferehab.org (Use the Events Link) This is our first time to host an event that involves birding so please come show your support. I have been out on the trail a few times the past couple of weeks and have seen a variety of native and migratory birds.
