Aside from the much needed rain, that violent storm last night brought
us our first Pine Siskin of the fall. It was a great way to begin the
day seeing this little beauty hanging upside down on the thistle feeder
with the Goldfinches.

On Saturday we had our usual one-day-White-crowned Sparrow of the
season. For the past two years during spring and fall migration we've
had a single bird for just one day. It's sure better than not having
one at all, but we're puzzled as to why they never stay around. This one
appeared to be comfortable with the White-throated and House Sparrows
and even ate in the open sunflower feeder along with them.

Now if some Purple Finches, Fox Sparrows, and Willie would just show up,
we'd be set for the winter.
