8/8/2013 Shelby Co (Ensley) I spent a few hours after getting off of work at Ensley Thursday morning. By the time I left I couldn't have been wetter if I stepped into a shower, its still amazing Jeff could soak that heat up out there for hours on end! On the way in, there were 8 Yellow-crowned Night-Herons along Riverport Rd, always a treat. The shorebirds were in constant flux, with a Peregrine making a couple of passes, as well as a Cooper's Hawk and a good showing of MS Kites. Finally a few young birds in the mix, mostly Least but a few Pec and Semi Sands as well. No sign of the Turnstone from the previous weekend, and only addition was finally a Baird's pulled out of the mix. Westerns were a little harder to come by as well. Only larger birds were 3 Lesser Yellowlegs. Black-bellied Whistlers have young now, with two very young sets noted. No sign of the Fulvous on the day. Quick trip to Mud Island was very uneventful, though the River is down a couple of feet anyway since my last visit. Not much to post photowise, but I've added just a few to my summer/fall gallery, first new image here: http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/image/151742855 Good Birding!!
