Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN

Today, the pits were in shambles as new construction on the levees
destroyed the last good wet area where the shorebirds had been since the rain
last
weekend. This same construction emptied the remote area where the mom
Black-bellied Whistler had been keeping her brood. The shorebirds were widely
scattered and numbers way down. Five adult Black-bellied Whistlers were
found across the old levee using another shrinking wet area and the paired
adults were hustling JUST 5 youngsters. Two more adult Black-bellied were seen
in TVA Lake.

A Cooper's Hawk immature, 2 young Red-tails, Mississippi Kites and the
adult Peregrine are keeping the birds hunkered. Pray for rain..............
Good Birding !!!
