April 28, 2010 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN After talking to Jay about what had moved into the "Pits"on Tuesday, I thought I'd do a check today. Spent about 2 hours and as usual the movement of Wind Birds in the spring is a matter of here today, gone tomorrow. Still big numbers of birds just a different mix. Killdeer, courting, on nests and escorting young, 5 (first of season for me) Semipalmated Plovers, the glut of Black-necked Stilts seen yesterday was down to 5 birds today so most were just moving through, 6 Spotted Sandpipers, 34 Solitary Sandpipers, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 49 Lesser Yellowlegs, 14 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 276 Least Sandpipers, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 48 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 DUNLIN, 4 Stilt Sandpipers, 6 Wilson's Phalarope (4-f, 1-m in breeding plumage- 1 in basic plumage) for a total of 14 fine Wind Bird Species. Four male Lesser Scaup linger on TVA Lake.
