The pair of Western Kingbirds have been very visible for the last few days. They can be seen regularly perched on the middle two pylons in front of the Allen Steam Plant. There is a visible nest on the second pylon, but Carolyn Bullock and I did not see the birds visit it. An Orchard Oriole nest is easily seen in the Cottonwood on the left side of the road to the Corps of Engineers landing. Many orioles are still singing in that area, along with Warbling Vireos. A Painted Bunting male was seen yesterday (and heard today near) the water discharge channel. Yellow-crowned Night Herons are feeding in the Riverport Road ponds along with Least Terns. Hardly exciting, but worth a trip.
