An Eastern Whip-poor-will was originally reported on March 15th by John Lehman
(UT Student) near his home off Alcoa Hwy (Knox County). Since then the bird
has been reported by several other Knoxville birders both at dusk and dawn. I
heard the bird call for 4 minutes last night (3/18/2016) starting at 7:05 pm.
Steve and Gail Clendenen were there as well.
Whip-poor-wills have been very sparse in Knox County over the last number of
years. It is really nice to have on show up so early in the season and stick
around for several days. We doubt this bird will stay for the season but we
hope it will.
