I birded Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery in Anderson County, Clinton, TN today (April 28, 2006) from 8:07 to 8:51 am. There are 6 ponds with various amounts of shorebird habitat. Here is a list of birds observed (highlights: solitary sandpiper, Wilson snipe, lesser yellowlegs, least sandpiper, bobolink, bank swallow): 1. Great blue heron- at least 11 including nestlings 2. Blue-winged teal- 10 3. Mallard- 4 4. Canada goose- not counted 5. American coot- 5 6. Killdeer- 4 7. Solitary sandpiper- 10 8. Wilson snipe- 1 9. Least sandpiper- 2 10. Lesser yellowlegs- 4 11. Mourning dove- 3 12. Belted kingfisher- 1 13. Bank swallow- at least one 14. Cliff swallow- 100+ 15. Tree swallow- at least 4 16. Northern rough-wing swallow- at least 6 17. Tufted titmouse- 1 18. Carolina wren- 3 19. American pipit- 1 20. European starling- at least 12 21. Yellow warbler- 2 22. Northern cardinal- 2 23. Field sparrow- 2 24. Song sparrow- 4 25. Savannah sparrow- at least 11 26. Eastern towhee- 1 27. White-eyed vireo- 1 28. Common yellowthroat- 1 29. Eastern kingbird- 2 30. Red-winged blackbird- at least 12 31. Bobolink- at least 5 but probably a lot more 32. Eastern meadowlark- 7 33. Common grackle- 1 34.
