I went to the Duck River Unit of the Tennessee NWR this morning to look for the Glaucous Gull reported over the weekend. I was told by the park rangers that even though the fields between the road and river are not posted as closed they would prefer folks only bird from the road. I could not locate a view point on the road to see the mudflat where the gulls were hanging around. I went out of the park and around to the other side of the river near Cuba Landing. There is an excellent place to view the mudflat where the gull was seen yesterday - Landing Rd (or Ln?) off of Cathole Rd (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cathole+Rd,+Bakerville-Bold+Spring,+TN+37185&gl=us&hl=en&msa=0&ll=35.947882,-87.916728&spn=0.003969,0.006706&z=17&msid=204786638099087010396.00049ce51a333b0890f07). I did not find the gull, but I was running late by that time and could only stay for a short while. I did see plenty of large white birds from that spot -Mute Swans, White Pelicans, Snow Geese, Ross's Goose, other gulls. It is possible the gull was lost in the mix or off down river somewhere. I hope someone relocates it.
